Admission Requirements

  • Must be 16 years or older
  • State issued ID card from any State , Passport, Green card or Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • or Graduating high school or GED program within 12 months 
  • No Immunizations or vaccination required
  • Uniforms/Scrubs not required. Students should dress casually and comfortably for school.

Class Times - 7 day Accelerated Program

  • Friday From 9:30am to 5:30pm
  • Saturday From 9:30am to 5:30pm
  • Sunday From 9:30am to 5:30pm 
  • Monday 9:30am to 5:30pm
  • Clinicals are done in the lab at the school
  •  3 additional self - paced days to review online videos' and practice tests before taking the state exam.  Most students complete their study modules in 2-3 days

How is the program structured ?

  •  We offer an accelerated Phlebotomy course. This course can be done part-time online and also self paced with required scheduled lab times.
  • Our Phlebotomy course is a unique blend of lecture and lab work and an online study curriculum geared to get you experienced with a variety of venipuncture techniques.
  • Our four-day program will prepare you for placement in a new career. You will learn blood draws, safety practices in the phlebotomy field, phlebotomy equipment and live patient draws in the classroom in a small group setting.

 

OUR NATIONALLY CERTIFIED, ACCLERATED,  4-7 PHLEBOTOMY TRAINING COURSE COVERS;

SAFETY IN THE FIELD
Preventing Needlestick Injuries, Principles of Infection Control, and Preventing Bloodborne Pathogen Transmission. Your safety in the field is just as important as the safety of your patients. We cover the means necessary to utilize safe habits in your daily practices. Learn more about the Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, and safer needle devices.


BLOOD COLLECTION 

Anatomy & Physiology, Performing Phlebotomy, and Special Consideration. From Day one we will dive right into general anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy techniques and equipment used, as well as special considerations for various patient demographics.


CLINICAL AND PRACTICE EXAM

Students will cover specific scenarios, and finish with a one-on-one practical exam to go over procedures learned in class. Students will have lifetime access to their own online study guide to continue working on the practice exams and material. Once the student is ready to take the state exam the school will schedule and proctor the state certification exam for the student.  

Job Market

  •  According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a phlebotomist in the US is around $38,000 a year and hourly rate is between $17-$18. Phlebotomists are projected to grow 22 percent from 2020 to 2030, and there are said to be 19,000 job openings each year for the occupation.  
  • We saw an increased demand for Phlebotomist during and after the pandemic. 
  • In the DFW are Phlebotomist average a starting rate of $18 to $22 an hour with mobile phlebotomists averaging $35 to $55 and hour.

State Requirements

Certifications must be renewed every two years

Continuing Education

  • Complete 10 continuing education credits
  • Your employer will and may require annual continuing education and will provide it. 

Renewing your Phlebotomy license

  • Certifications must be renewed every two years
  • There is no penalty for renewing early
  • Before your expiration date: Complete 10 continuing education credits
  • Pay your recertification fee
  • If your certification has expired, you have 1 year to reinstate it

  •  A Phlebotomy technician is a person who draws blood from patients and prepares the blood samples for lab tests.
  • The procedure of drawing blood from veins is called venipuncture, for diagnostic testing, blood donation and other medical reasons.

  • They work in Plasma donation centers, Blood donation centers, Labs, Doctors’ offices, Clinics, Hospitals, Diagnostic centers and Emergency Centers and mobile Phlebotomy. In mobile Phlebotomy the position consists of traveling to patients’ homes to perform phlebotomy procedures, collect, process, ship and transport specimens for diagnostic testing.  


  •  In Texas, to qualify as a phlebotomist you will typically have completed a certificate program like the one offered at Legacy Career Institute . In some cases, even related experience in the field could work but most employers prefer to hire a trained certified technician who had gone through an approved program.


 Yes, becoming a phlebotomist requires relatively little investment in training and education compared to the long-term benefit.  This is great entry level healthcare certificate for someone who wants to be in the medical field and start a new career in a short amount of time and effort. The phlebotomy program is also a great steppingstone into other healthcare degrees and diplomas.    


 Anyone can become a Phlebotomist but important skills you should have are; entry level data entry skills, organization, steady hand and being able to focus on attention to detail, basic computer skills, high school completion or GED.
